Learn more about the Girls and Boys Town projectPlay
As part of its goal to promote community-wide water conservation, the Water Conservation Coalition (WCC) identifies water conservation projects in Southern Nevada that it can organize and complete through the use of community volunteers and donations.
In fall 2007, the WCC began an indoor and outdoor water-smart upgrade at the Girls and Boys Town of Nevada residential campus.
The Girls and Boys Town residential campus is home to 30 at-risk children between the ages of 10 and 18. The children live in five large homes on 22 acres of land. Each home is staffed by a committed teacher-family that provides the children with guidance and care.
Built in 1989, the homes are in need of water-efficient upgrades. The Girls and Boys Town project includes converting grass to water-efficient landscape, upgrading the plumbing and installing water-efficient appliances.
The project is funded entirely by donations and is estimated to save 2.2 million gallons of water each year.
