To help achieve further water efficiency, SNWA offers a number of incentive programs to promote outdoor conservation, including the Water Smart Landscapes rebate and instant rebate coupons.
The Water Smart Landscapes program provides incentives for residents and business owners to replace lawns with water-efficient landscaping. Through the Water Smart Landscapes rebate, Southern Nevadans have removed more than 130 million square feet of grass and replaced it with water-efficient landscaping, saving billions of gallons of water annually.
Between 2002 and 2009, Southern Nevada's consumptive water use decreased by about 26 billion gallons, despite a population increase of 400,000 during that span and approximately 40 million annual visitors.
Thanks largely to community compliance with conservation measures and participation in various water-efficiency programs, including Water Smart Landscapes, the Las Vegas Valley is continuing a declining water use.
The SNWA will continue to work with its member agencies to identify projects or activities that promote water conservation and efficiency.
