SNWA Landscape Awards Homeowner Rules

The judging panel is comprised of landscape and irrigation professionals, horticulturists and gardening experts. Contest rules for homeowners are:

All projects must be within the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) service area. This area includes:

  • Boulder City
  • Henderson
  • Las Vegas
  • Laughlin
  • North Las Vegas

If you submit a printed entry form, the homeowner must sign the form. The online entry form must be submitted by the homeowner.

Provide four to six different color photos of the landscape. If applying with a printed entry form, write your name and address on the back of the photos. Photos will not be returned. If applying online, name the electronic copy of the photo using your last name and the numbers of your street address to help identify them.

Helpful Hints

Here are a few tips to improve your entry:

  1. Mature landscapes present better. If you have a young landscape, you may want to wait to enter next year.

  2. Landscapes are not judged solely on how little water they use. Judges look for good use of living plant material and efficient use of water. Judging criteria include aesthetics, irrigation systems, plant selection and mulches.

  3. Take photos early in the morning or in the evening about an hour before sunset for better lighting. Also, try to take the photos from different angles - this allows us to evaluate the entire area. Stand with the sun behind you as you face the landscape.

  4. If you are entering both your front and back yards, note each separately as either a new landscape design or as a landscape upgrade.

  5. Judges may reassign the category in which the project is entered. You will be notified if reassigned.
