Grass

Southern Nevada lies in a warm arid zone. Warm-season grass and cool-season grass are the two general grass types found in the region.

Cool-Season Grasses

Cool-season grass varieties include those that germinate when day-time temperatures range from 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to plant a cool-season grass is early fall. Cool-season grasses include:

  • Fescue
  • Ryegrass
  • Bluegrass
  • Bentgrass

Warm-Season Grasses

Warm-season grass varieties germinate when day-time temperatures range from 80 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. These varieties do best when planted in late spring, but they may be planted any time of year. Warm-season grasses include:

  • Bermuda
  • Buffalograss
  • St. Augustine
  • Zoysia
