Xeriscape

Xeriscape, pronounced zeer'-ih-scape, is a water-smart landscape that includes colorful flowers, plants and trees.

Xeriscape is a water-saving alternative to yards consisting primarily of grass. While grass can still be part of a xeriscape landscape, grassy areas are limited to the areas where you and your family actually use it, like in the back yard.

Despite some common misconceptions, xeriscape is NOT brown lava rock and a lone palm tree.

Water Smart Landscapes Rebate

You can earn $1.50 for every square foot of grass converted to a water-smart landscape, with no cap on maximum square footage. Apply for our Water Smart Landscapes program. For more information, including terms and requirements, view the program conditions.

You can save 55 gallons of water per square foot per year by replacing grass with a water-efficient landscape.

Rebates for well users are subject to the availability of special funds and limited to 2,500 square feet per calendar year.

Visit xeriscape gardens

There are a number of desert demonstration gardens around the valley. Visit one of these gardens to get more information and see the beauty of the desert.
