SNWA receives report on growth

The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) Board of Directors received the results of an economic impact analysis related to growth at the February 2004 meeting.

The SNWA Board commissioned the independent study to upate a previous study conducted for the Las Vegas Valley Water District in 1992. Unlike the previous analysis which focused on the impacts of a water-imposed growth moratorium, this update took a broader look at impacts of a growth interruption, regardless of the cause.

Some highlights of the study conclusions:

  • Growth rates will decline as the economy matures.
  • A significant interruption to normal growth patterns would affect large and small businesses in every industry.
  • Rates of growth do not necessarily equate to quality of life.
  • The greater the interruption the greater the impact.
