One of the fastest growing regions in the United States, Southern Nevada's population increased more than 50 percent since 1990, posing a challenge in maintaining an adequate water treatment and delivery system.

To meet this challenge, the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) became one of the first water utilities in the United States to implement integrated resource planning. This approach considers all aspects of water-related issues—water demands, available resources, conservation, facilities and financing.
