Lake Mead

Lake Mead is the largest man-made reservoir in the United States. The reservoir, which stores Colorado River water, formed in the 1930s after the completion of Hoover Dam. Lake Mead can store approximately 26 million acre-feet of water.

Hoover Dam sits in Black Canyon on the Nevada-Arizona border. It regulates the flow of water to prevent flooding during wet years
and stores Nevada's, California's and Arizona's Colorado River allocations.

Lake Mead's water sources:
97 percent Colorado River
1.5 percent Virgin & Muddy Rivers
1.5 percent Las Vegas Wash
