Give your new water smart landscape the
foundation it needs to stay healthy for
years to come.
New plants need extra attention and watering as they get established in their environment. Mandatory watering restrictions allow for the extra watering of new plants for the first 30 days under watering restrictions. Hand-watering is allowed anytime.
Monitor your plants closely for signs of stress. The environment in your yard can vary from location to location due to differing conditions such as amount of available shade, exposure to wind and sun and slope. As your plants begin to mature, you'll learn which areas often need a bit of extra water or special attention.
Deep-watering is more important than the frequency, so check the soil for moisture and adjust watering times accordingly.
During the first eight weeks, follow the watering suggestions below to help establish low-water-use and desert-adapted plants.
Weeks 1 & 2:
Water every 1-2 days in summer, very 3-4 days in fall, winter and spring
Weeks 3 & 4:
Water every 3-4 days in summer, every 6-7 days in fall, winter and spring
Weeks 5 & 6:
Water every 4-6 days in summer, every 7-10 days in fall, winter and spring
Weeks 7 & 8:
Water every 7 days in summer, every 10-14 days in fall, winter and spring
After week 8:
Check plants for proper drainage and signs of stress and water based on need. Water new plants if the first two inches of soil is dry and check drip emitter placement.
