Peruvian Old Man
Espostoa lanata
The Peruvian Old Man cactus will, as it matures, develop a cephalium, a dense growth of wool like spines on one side of the plant at the growing tip. White to purple flowers are borne from this hairy growth in late spring or early summer. Primarily used as an accent container plant in hot desert climates, if located in a protected area it can be planted in the landscape. Plant will do best if given afternoon shade, protect from hard freezes and keep on the dry side in the winter as this cactus is very prone to rotting.
