Golden Barrel, Golden Barrel Cactus
Echinocactus grusonii

Popular and well used landscaping plant. As long as good drainage is provided, water generously in summer. Golden Barrel cactus appreciate afternoon shade as young plants may sunburn in direct hot afternoon sun. Has small yellow flowers on mature specimens that are not very visible on the creamy colored tops. Useful as an accent plant, more effective in groups of varying sizes. Can be used in containers. Handle cactus with heavy gloves or wrap in a heavy towel or piece of carpeting to position and plant. Spectacular when early morning sun shines though the bright yellow spines creating a halo effect.
