Giant Prickly Pear, Bartolona, Silver Dollar Cactus
Opuntia robusta
This cactus has super large dinner plate size pads, some reaching 20 inches across. It is a formidable plant so give it room to grow. Occasional trimming of select pads to keep plant balanced will prevent breakage from extra heavy areas. After a showing of large, bright yellow flowers it sets delicious, nicely colored fruit which will sit on the plant for quite some time. Both the fruit and the young pads are edible.
