Southwestern native. Mojave Desert native. Woody-based perennial with a low, mounding habit. Small, slender, light green to gray-green leaves. Leaves at the base are thicker and more rounded. Stems are covered with white woolly hairs. Blooms at the branch tips. The bright yellow flowers dry to an ivory color and remain on the plant. Flowers attract butterflies and bees. Seeds a food source for birds. May re-seed into the landscape. Becomes straggly when older. Can shear back in late winter to encourage bushy habit. Leaves are poisonous if eaten. Synonym: Riddellia cooperi.
