This succulent has an upright clumping habit with smooth fleshy blue-green leaves up to 3 inches long. Large domed clusters of small pink to dusky red star-shape flowers appear in late summer. Flower heads mature to maroon-brown seeds which are a food source for birds. Keep out of full sun in desert climates, soak when dry and provide good drainage. May die to the ground in winter and re-emerges from roots in spring. Attracts bees and butterflies. Also known as Hylotelephium spectabile.
