Short-lived perennial. Long, branching, hairy stems growing up from a basal rosette. Bright to dull green, lance-shaped, hairy leaves with toothed margins. Daisy-like, 3 to 7 inch flowers. Commonly yellow petals surrounding a brown central cone. Several cultivars with varying flower color, including multicolor. Flowers attract butterflies and bees. Seed are a food source for birds. May reseed into the landscape. Does best with amended soils and some afternoon shade.
